Software Identification Services

In conjunction with the software license manager Spider License it is especially important to positively identify software packages. The software installed in a company is determined using a software scanner. These inventory systems, such as for example Microsoft SMS, supply detailed information from the directory and registry entries on a computer.

From this data it is not possible to identify the installed software correctly: Is it version 97, 2000 of XP? Was only the word processing and spreadsheets installed or the economical Office Suite, perhaps the Professional Edition?

The Software Identification Service determines which products were actually installed.
Its data bank of key characteristics can also map the history of a software package. This guarantees reliable licensing.

Inventory systems

The most efficient means of collecting the latest information on the systems installed on an enterprise network is the deployment of an inventory tool.

It evaluates data on the hardware and software from all network computers on an ongoing basis and stores the results in a central location. Some of the best known products are Microsoft SMS and Tivoli. This is solely technical information, which does not contain any organizational or business data.

Spider extracts the data which it requires from these systems and enriches it with solution-related information.
